Stone House Renovation Just Outside Devizes, Wiltshire
This farmhouse was originally covered in a modern thermoplastic masonry paint that was flaking, holding in the moisture and had become an eyesore. (Unfortunately I don’t have the pictures to show you how bad it was!)
The masonry paint was removed using a ThermoTech (DoFF) superheated water cleaning system to reveal the remnants of the limewash underneath. At this point there were two options; either remove the limewash to reveal the natural stone or re cover in a breathable paint. The owners decided to remove the limewash sympathetically in order to see the condition of the stonework. This was carried out using a low pressure wet blast system.
Once the limewash was removed the old (failing) joints were raked out and the stonework was repointed using a hydraulic lime mix – to ensure that the joints could breathe properly.
